Countries with a large population like India have a large number of people now aged 60 years or more. The population over the age of 60 years has tripled in the last 50 years in India, and this increase in the elderly population is the result of changing fertility and mortality regimes over the last 40-50 years. Considering the plight of the aged people in rural and tribal areas, we are providing promotional, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services in an integrated manner.

Senior Citizen Home
In the existing social scenario, a good chunk of senior citizens are deprived of care and maintenance. They are considered unproductive, which results in frustration and a miserable life for these older persons. To provide them with a peaceful life in their last stage, BAHIRKANCHALI SRISTI EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY has undertaken different programs for their care, protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration with family(s).

BAHIRKANCHALI SRISTI EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY has been running the Home for Senior Citizens at 6 locations in Dhenkanal district and one in Angul district of WB. The Homes admit 25 senior citizens in each Home, providing necessary residential, recreational, and health facilities to the inmates who are poor & distressed, destitute, widowed, and in need of care & protection. The organization has engaged staff in the Homes to provide specific services like residential care, emotional support, nutritional food intake, recreational support, health care, counseling, and complementary health services like Yoga & Pranayam to the inmates. Weekly health checkup exercises are conducted by the part-time Doctor and Nursing staff, with treatment and free medicines, apart from referral services to more complicated cases.

With a view to keeping the older persons active & productive, there are arrangements for simple & stress-free productive activities like rope making, kitchen gardening, and leaf stitching, etc., as per the suitability and comfort of the respective inmate. There are arrangements for outing facilities/excursion trips for the beneficiaries of these Homes to different places of spiritual and cultural importance. Additionally, International Day for Older Persons and other culturally important days are observed with participation of the beneficiaries in the following SrCHs.
